Description
ABSTRACT
Attendance needs to be taken at various places including colleges, school for students. The existing attendance system requires students to manually sign the sheet every time they attend a class. This includes the more time consumed by the students to find their name on sheet, some students may mistakenly signed another student’s name and the sometimes sheet may got lost. For avoiding the sheet problem, we used RFID technology, RFID card capture the attendance by flashing their card and save all data but sometimes RFID card may got lost. Approach: For avoiding the problem in sheet and RFID, we used face recognition and authentication using web cam with RFID based. After having images from Web-Cam, the image is cropped into square shape. We also focus on the special characteristics of human facial aspects such as eye, nose. In this recognition different control point are detected. The input image goes through the recognition system for facial identification. In some cases where the input image from the Web-Cam does not exist in the database, the user will get some error. However, in cases where the image exists in the database, that image will be computed for similarity measurement using Distance between control point measures from the input image. Results and Conclusion: The result of our experiment indicate that the recognition process of number of images in the database and some images from the Web-Cam provides 100% accuracy in terms of recognition.

CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRUDUCTION
Attendance is maintained in every college, institute and university. A proper record needs to be maintained by respective teachers. Manual attendance record system is not efficient and requires time to arrange record and to calculate the average attendance of each individual student. So there is a need to design a system that will automatically arrange the record and calculate the average attendance of each student. The proposed Attendance Record System is intended to replace the manual model.
The Attendance Record System allows the instructors to maintain attendance record of students in their respective classes on a paper. The goal is to provide a professor with an easy, time saving solution to attendance record maintenance. Student’s context such as presence, facial expressions, attitude of body is discussed in this paper. At the same time face images reflect a lot about this context information. It is possible to estimate automatically whether each student is present or absent by using face recognition technology. We are concerned with the method to use face image processing technology.
We propose a method that takes the attendance using face recognition based (using webcam) on continuous observation. In this paper, our purpose is to obtain the attendance and images of student’s face, which are useful information in the lecture.
1.2 OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The objective of this work is to build a device is commonly used in schools, colleges, office and stations which automatically keep a track of people.
1.3 APPLICATIONS OF THE PROJECT
1) This project can be used in various software companies, production industries and many other industries to take the attendance of employees. Presently many of these companies have attendance register or muster which is a traditional and old way of maintaining attendance. We can replace it with automated system for taking the attendance of employees.
2) It can be used in colleges, various educational institutes as well as university campus for taking the attendance of students. Education institutes have roll-call muster or teachers take attendance and note it down manually on paper. We can replace it by our automated attendance system using RFID.
3) It can be used in shops, shopping malls for the attendance of employees and workers.
4) We can also use it to note down the in and out time of vehicles. With little bit modification, this project can be used in vehicle/car parking systems. If parking charges are charged on hourly basis, we can use this project to note the exact in and out time of car to find out the total and exact parking charges of that particular vehicle.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
1) This system is fully automated and it does not require any human interaction except setting the initial time setting.
2) LCD and PC interface both are provided with RFID based attendance system. This gives benefit of viewing attendance on the spot on LCD or remotely from computer.
3) This system is accurate and can avoid proxy or false attendance.
1.5 LIMITATIONS OF THE PROJECT
- RFID attendance system is secured, but there is a chance of misusing the cards. One person can give another person’s attendance if he/she had RFID card.
- If the card was swiped for more than once, there is a chance of giving attendance for next days also if code is not written properly.
CHAPTER TWO
2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 OVERVIEW OF ATTENDANCE MANAGEMENT
Attendance management is important to every single organisation, it can determine whether or not a business will be successful in the future. Businesses will have to keep a track of employees, this being their main concern and a lot of other things. Monitoring attendance helps in the long term for a business, as an employer will be able to tell which employees arrive early, which arrive late and who has the most absences without any valid reason. This could help an employer in deciding which employees are most suitable to work in the business, having employees who arrive to work on time means that the day-to-day tasks of the organisation will be fulfilled. Employees within an organisation should know about their employer’s attendance and absence policy, so that they are aware of what is required of them. Attendance management is also a health and safety procedure something in which that has to be carried out. It is important because in case of an emergency that was to arise in a workplace like a fire, then if they register in the company they will know how many people are inside a building. It is important to manage a set of workforce as it can lead to higher profits as well as an increase in productivity. If you have a look on the other side of what will happen if a business does not manage their attendance, it will mean that they will have no sort of information to look back on in case if it is needed in the future. They also will not be able to keep a track on their employees on a day-to-day basis which means there is no leadership in place.
