1.0                                                         INTRODUCTION

Trolley are common form of transport in distribution environment for moving bulk loads. In today life we may have to carry so many goods and objects of various quantities from one place to another especially in offices, schools, colleges, hotels, industries, apartments etc. where the lifts may not be available, may be crowded with people or may be under repair .It is highly tiresome to carry various objects through stairs manually for higher floors for so many times. The various applications may be carrying bundles of answer sheets in a school or a college, carrying furniture in different buildings, different apparatus in colleges, in hospitals etc., carrying electronic items in houses and offices .So there should be a way to carry the objects from place to place in a more comfortable and tireless manner without forcing the user to apply more force. This work is aimed at building a 500kg capacity three-tier adjustable wheel trolley.

1.1                                                 PROJECT BACKGROUND

Trolley is equipment used to move heavy loads from one place to another.  It can reduce the human burden in their daily lives.

This device is commonly used by a large number of industries to transport physical products. Trolley is often used by those who organize and stock merchandise in retail stores restock. When used properly, trolley can protect people from having back injuries and other health problems that can result from lifting and carrying heavy loads.

A typical trolley consists of two small wheels located beneath a load-bearing platform; the trolley usually has two handles on its support frame. These handles are used to push, pull and maneuver the device. The handles may extend from the top rear of the frame, or one handle may curve from the back. An empty hand trolley usually stands upright in an L-shape, and products are usually stacked on top of the platform. When the goods are in place, it is tilted backward so that the load is balanced between the platform and the support frame. Especially if heavy or fragile materials are moved, the person operating the trolley should return it to an upright position carefully, to insure nothing falls off the platform. The front of the frame may be squared off for boxes or curved for drums and barrels. Sometimes, a hand truck also has straps for securing loose freight during transport. Professional material handlers prefer to use a hand truck when moving stackable items such as boxes, crates or packages. Heavier items are usually stacked on the bottom of the hand truck, with lighter objects saved for the top. Hand truck users must be careful not to stack it so high that their vision is blocked or the load becomes unstable. Generally, it is safe to load a hand truck to the level of its handles or the top of the frame. The load is then shifted onto the wheels with a backwards lifting motion. The user can maneuver the cargo by steering it left, right or forward.

1.2                                                  PROBLEM STATEMENT

Carrying heavy objects from one place to another are not painless jobs, especially where there are no lifting facilities (elevator, conveyer, etc.). Moreover, most of the buildings are structurally congested and do not have elevators or escalators. Also, most of the trolley available are not detachable, multi-functional and also have single partition. Lack of these functions made them difficult to carry certain loads (such as carrying a gas cylinder) from one place to another. To overcome these challenges, this industrial trolley was made which has the capacity of moving heavy load, have detachable partitions, and adjustable wheel.

This innovative design significantly amplifies cargo space, allowing for the seamless transport of more items in a single journey. Experience a reduction in transportation trips, a boost in operational efficiency, and a noticeable decrease in costs.

 

1.3                                   AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

This project is aimed at building an industrial 500kg capacity three-tier adjustable wheel trolley for the transportation of loads from place to place.

The objectives of the project are:

  1. To fabricate the machine prototype with a capacity of 500kg
  2. To reduce the manual
  • To combine various components to the simple multifunctional industrial trolley with four tyres and three (3) partitions which will help to convey industry product from one place to another.
  1. To provide an alternative means of reducing man labour of carrying load from place to place

1.4                                          SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

Nowadays there are many equipment developed for warehouses to make the jobs easier and simple. Important job in warehouses to do is to carry, lift and move boxes or any luggages. Uses of trolleys helps in transporting any heavy loads or luggage’s, additionally there are facts that increase efficiency in the workplace. Different warehouses will need different kinds of equipment that won’t cause any injuries or problems to workers.

A 500kg (approximately 1102 lbs) capacity means the trolley can handle substantial loads, reducing the number of trips needed to move materials and increasing overall efficiency. This is particularly useful in warehouses, factories, and construction sites where heavy items are frequently moved.

Three-Tier Design: This feature provides ample space for organizing and transporting multiple items simultaneously. The tiered structure allows for segregation of different types of materials or items, preventing overcrowding and potential damage.

The adjustability of the shelves allows for customization based on the size and shape of the items being transported. This flexibility is crucial for handling items of varying dimensions, ensuring stability and preventing items from shifting during movement.

1.5                                                 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

The scope of this work covers building a 500kg capacity four-tier adjustable wheel trolley is significant for its ability to efficiently and safely transport heavy loads across various environments. Its three-tier design maximizes storage space, while the adjustable shelves offer flexibility for different items. The high weight capacity and maneuverability make it suitable for industrial, commercial, and even some domestic settings.

1.8                                                      RESEARCH APPROACH

Different literature survey was done for the existed designs which exposes me to different working and designed principles of the current design. With the use of few creativity techniques and theoretical aspects, the design process started which indicates the type of material, safe dimensions, design safety, factor of safety
