Description
This work is on an automated window with burglar alarm. This device was built to protect the interior of houses as it works automatically by sensing the rain. It is particularly very helpful device to use in rainy season. The concept of sensing rain water to close the window is not new. It has been developed to use in the automobile sector. But this invention can be used successfully for domestic purpose. This device also functions as a major security alarms used in residential, commercial, industrial, and military properties for protection against burglary (theft) or property damage, as well as personal protection against intruders .

1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Nowadays, technology has make life easier and comfortable. Those equipment are related with different engineering field (e.g. electrical, mechanical etc.) In order to protect the household in rainy season and also from intruders, this device has been developed. The field of this work is mechatronics, which is a combination of mechanical and electronics has had great advancement in the past few years. Mechatronics is implementing in this development to construct an automatic controlled commercial window. Ucar et al. (2021) tried to develop a new wiper system to wipe rain water from vehicle’s windscreen. In older system, wiper was used to control manually and the process of pulling up the wiper was quite difficult. So, objective of their work was to modify the system by providing automatic wiping system. They developed an automatic control system by using a Peripheral interface controller and water sensor. Their system could manage to achieve the aim as it could remove rain water automatically from outside the car. The rain sensing automatic power window has a rain sensor, a motor operating circuit, a pair of motors and a driver mechanism for sliding type windows. When rain falls on the sensor, it sends signals to the circuit.
Also, the need for having home protection has always been there. But in the recent times, considering a dramatic rise in petty crimes like robbery and theft, the need has been more strongly felt to have a fool proof protection of the belongings and the family members. Home security has come a long way in the last few decades. It was in the hands of a guard who manually provided surveillance during nights in the earlier days, but it was not fool proof as it was only normal for him to have momentary lapse of concentration (Dellosa, 2024).
The guard was also susceptible to sleep at times. It was then that home alarm system based upon electronic circuits were developed which proved to be highly reliable and were appreciated by the people as they were relieved from constant monitoring of their homes (Dellosa, 2024).
1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Traditionally, window of a building or house is operated by the occupant whenever it is raining; this calls for an attention and involves labour.
Also, the need for having a constant home protection has always been there. But in the recent times, considering a dramatic rise in petty crimes like robbery and theft, the need has been more strongly felt to have a fool proof protection of the belongings and the family members. Home security has come a long way in the last few decades. It was in the hands of a guard who manually provided surveillance during nights in the earlier days, but it was not fool proof as it was only normal for him to have momentary lapse of concentration. This invention came to solve these problems which automatically closes a window whenever rain drops on the sensor and also ensures adequate protection against intruders.
1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
The aim of this work is to build an automated window with burglar alarm. The objectives of the study are:
- To build an automated window with burglar alarm prototype.
- To automatically open and close a window during the time of rainfall and vice-versa.
- To replace the manual closing and opening of window.
- To detect the presence of an intruder in a building.
- To ensures adequate protection against intruders.
1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of this study covers building an automated window with burglar alarm. The system uses servo/linear actuator to adjust window position, closes automatically when rain is detected, triggers an alarm if an intrusion is detected, and also a GSM module controls window and power system remotely. Mains supply with battery backup is used as the power source.
1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This device will serve a means of replacing the manual closing and opening of window which involves time and human labour
This device will serve as a means ensuring adequate protection against intruders in our homes and industries.
This device will serve as a means of exposing students on how to interface GSM with arduino.
1.6 BENEFITS OF THE PROJECT

5.1 CONCLUSION
Home security is rapidly growing field and there are new and improved intruder alarms popping up every day. With rapid advancement of technology the filled is turning out to be an area full of scope and new changes can be made to make it’s more efficient. It has years to come, because security is of prime importance to one and all.
The use of stepper motor is a better option since the feedback mechanism is in-built in the software design of the microcontroller. Finally the voltage variations of the moisture sensor enables the movement of the stepper motor to either close or open an attached window having in mind that the voltage variation of the sensor depends on moisture.
5.2 RECOMMENDATIONS
The device has been designed, tested and system was able to respond to its operation. This work was built with quality wiring and contains many connections, I recommend that if failure occur, it should be troubleshoot by a qualify personnel along with the circuits diagram.
This project was built for Educational purposes. If one wants to use it for industrial or home applications, I recommend that a hook should be attached to the casing that would allow fixing the system on the wall.
Working on this topic as my project is a good idea and it comes at the right time. I am suggesting that this particular topic should also be given to other students both in higher and lower class.
