Description
ABSTRACT
This work is on building a 1kwatt fm transmitter and receiver. This device is an electronic device which with the aid of an antenna, produces and receives radio waves. The transmitter itself generates a radio frequency alternating current, which is applied to the antenna. When excited by this alternating current, the antenna radiates radio waves. FM transmitter is basically a VHF colipits oscillator capable of transmitting sound or music to any standard FM receiver. The circuit works on a D.C source which makes it for a pure rectification. FM transmitter also has a capacitor microphone which picks up very weak sound signals. The receiver design includes the electronic design of different components of a radio receiver which processes the radio frequency signal from an antenna in order to produce usable information such as audio. The FM receiver is designed using single IC used to receive frequency range of 88 MHz to 108 MHz in F.M. band, it is built around IC TEA5591.
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT
Traditional fm transmitter and receiver was seen built differently. Building an fm transmitter and receiver separately consumes time at the same uses common common components repeatedly such as antenna and power supply thereby making it more expensive to build.
In order to solve this problem, a 1kw fm transmitter and receiver was built together in the same casing making it possible for the device to use one power supply and antenna to operate the system.
1.2 AIM AND OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
The aim of this work is to build a 1kw FM transmitter and receiver. The objectives of the work are:
- To build the system prototype
- To show the construction process of an FM transmitter and receiver
- To use some components in common thereby reducing the cost of constructing the device
1.3 SCOPE OF THE OF THE PROJECT
The scope of this work covers building an fm transmitter and receiver. Both the transmitter and receiver that are combined do not share common circuitry apart from the power supply and antenna but they in a single housing.
1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT
Incorporating an fm receiver serve as a means of providing a feedback to the transmitter so the person transmitting will be able to hear what is been transmitted without looking for an external receiver.
The project signifies a lot in the electronic communication system which telecommunication is the vital aspect which is usually demonstrated through radio communication system the frequency modulation transmitting and receiving.
Working on this project shall serve as a means of learning how frequency modulation works.
1.5 LIMITATION OF THE PROJECT
- it needs a strong RF signal and/or a long-wire antenna to operate.
- Poor selectivity can occur if not properly insulated
- Low battery can affect the frequency
- The frequency of the two circuits must be between 87 and108 MHz
1.6 PROJECT WORK ORGANISATION
The various stages involved in the development of this project have been properly put into five chapters to enhance comprehensive and concise reading. In this project work, the project is organized sequentially as follows:
Chapter one of this work is on the introduction. In this chapter, the background, significance, objective limitation and problem of the project work were discussed.
Chapter two is on literature review of the study. In this chapter, all the literature pertaining to this work was reviewed.
Chapter three is on design methodology. In this chapter all the method involved during the design and construction were discussed.
Chapter four is on testing analysis. All testing that result accurate functionality was analyzed.
Chapter five is on conclusion, recommendation and references.
CHAPTER FIVE
5.1 CONCLUSION
At the end of this work a 1kw fm transmitter and receiver was built. Due to its low output, sometimes these transmitters are not suitable for use in large urban areas, as the frequencies they use may become interrupted with other radio signals. This situation can be aggravated by strong FM signals that bleed into surrounding frequencies which the transmitter uses.
The FM transmitter has many helpful applications. It has, for example, made it possible to take any type of audio from a computer, including music or online debates, and transmit it to an FM radio. The FM radio, basically serves as alternative speakers. One benefit of this is that it removes the hassle of the listener from having to stay chained to a desktop PC to listen to Internet radio.
The receiver part of this work was instantly used as a feedback device for the transmitter. It spreads information to a greater group of population thereby saving time, energy, money and man-power in an effective way. They have a very low cost and adequate reliability.
5.2 RECOMMENDATION
The idea of carrying out this work is right one that comes at the right time, more especially now that it is highly needed for educational impartation. This project is designed to be used in industries, school or any public place where there is need for listening to radio transmission. And should be used and maintain by a qualified personnel.
